Après la 9ème journée, les Cats de Geelong gardent le cap et restent seuls en tête du classement de l'AFL. Pourtant, il s'en est fallu de peu, d'un goal manqué par Carlton dans la dernière minute, pour que le leader garde son invincibilité. On notera aussi la première victoire des Lions de Brisbane aux dépens de North Melbourne et la performance des West Coast Eagles qui ont écrasé les Western Bulldogs avec plus de 120 points d'avance et 10 goals de Josh Kennedy.
