Dans le match au sommet de cette deuxième journée, les Geelong Cats sont venus à bout des Hawthorn Hawks. Menés durant la plupart de la rencontre, les Cats ont,comme lors de la journée inaugurale,imposé leur supériorité physique et technique lors des ultimes minutes leur permettant de gagner sur le score serré de 100 à 91. Pour le moment,le champion en titre ne domine pas outrageusement les débats mais gère assez intelligemment ses rencontres en prenant la tête au moment opportun et en s'imposant tout en s'économisant pour la suite de la saison.
L'une des rencontres les plus indécises a eu lieu à Perth où Port Adelaide s'est imposé face aux West Coast Eagles sur le score de 89 à 86. Dans les deux premiers quart temps, Port Adelaide a dominé les débats comptant jusqu'à 27 points d'avance. Mais dominateurs dans le 3ème quart,ce sont les Eagles qui entamèrent la dernière reprise en tête. Et finalement c'est Port Adelaide qui sort vainqueur de ce match et qui se hisse dans les premières places du classement grâce à ses deux victoires de suite.
